Since its inception in 1972, the esteemed band "Souls" has stood the test of time, retaining its influence over several generations and the ever-evolving music scene. With numerous artists joining and departing over the years, the band has maintained an unwavering commitment to its music and its fans. Originating from Chattogram, Souls has become a household name, bridging the generational divide with its captivating tunes and heartfelt lyrics. Now, as it approaches its 50-year milestone, a grand celebration is in the offing.
On June 6th, a significant day marking their five-decade journey, the band is set to hold a press conference at a prestigious club in the capital, Dhaka. According to the band's lead vocalist and guitarist, Partha Barua, the occasion will also witness the unveiling of a new logo. This grand unveiling is but a prelude to the plethora of events and releases planned for the following two years.
One of the key highlights of Souls' anniversary plans involves the release of 50 songs. This collection will not only introduce 20 new tracks to the music scene, but also breathe new life into 30 of the band's old hits. This approach encapsulates the band's goal to honor their rich legacy while continually innovating and exploring new artistic directions. Beyond the release of these songs, Souls will also entertain its international fans with concerts scheduled in England and Australia in July and September, respectively.
In 1972, Souls embarked on its journey under the leadership of Sajed Ul Alam, with a group of young musicians. Initially christened as "Surerela," the band rebranded itself as "Souls" in 1973. Sajed, Lulu, and Roni were the founding members. Over the years, the band's lineup expanded to include renowned musicians such as Nokib Khan, Pilu Khan, Tapan Chowdhury, Nasim Ali Khan, Ayub Bachchu, Ronnie Barua, Neoyaz, and Partha Barua, among others.
The band's first major breakthrough came in 1982 with the release of its debut album "Super Souls." This album went on to become one of the most popular in the country's band music history. Over the past five decades, Souls has gifted the audience with numerous popular songs including "Mon Sudhu Mon Chuyechhe," "E Emon Porichoy," "Mone Koro," "Khujis Jahare," "Brishti Dekhe Onek Kandechi," "Ei Mukhorito Jiboner Cholar Pothe," and "Ken Ei Nishongota." Today, the band's lineup includes Nasim Ali Khan (vocals), Partha Barua (vocals and lead guitar), Ahsanur Rahman Ashik (drums), Mir Shahriar Masum (keyboard), and Maruf Hasan Riyal (bass guitar), carrying forward the legacy of Souls into its 50th year.
