Tangia Zaman Methila, winner of 'Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020' crown, highlighted the country’s name at the Paris Fashion Week, one of the global 'Big Four'.
Participants from 199 countries attended this year's fashion week in Paris. Among them were models, designers and other fashion professionals. Methila walked the runways there as a showstopper for a Chinese Designer Brand LANYU and a French clothing brand Pietu Couture. A Google search on whether if anyone from Bangladesh ever walked in Paris Fashion Week before her resulted in no information. Hence, it may be safe to say that Methila curved her name to be the first Bangladeshi to walk the runways in a Paris Fashion Week.
Methila said, 'As a model, I always wanted to go to Paris Fashion Week, to go to Milan Fashion Week, it's every model's dream. I wanted to go to Paris Fashion Week before, but didn't get the chance, didn't get the proper link. There is also the issue of visas. Basically, they sent me the invitation through Miss Universe Bangladesh.”
About her arrangements to go to Paris and the arrangements there, Methila said, “Before going there, I did not realize that the show would be so well arranged. Paris Fashion Week provided me with everything including tickets for the trip, hotel and everything.'
“My National Director (Miss Universe Bangladesh) lined up all of this for me, not sure how. Because influencers with large fan followers walk in many shows in Paris Fashion Week.”
“Since I am still the Miss Universe title holder of our country and no one has come after me yet, when they contacted Miss Universe for this, the National Director sent me.”
When asked about this further, Methila said, 'As far as I know, a model walked long ago, 20-30 years ago, Shaon apu (Shaon). But I'm not sure if she walked in Paris Fashion Week. I can't get the correct information, I don't know her personally, and I don't know where she is now.'
Describing the experience of walking there, Methila said, 'If I say experience, I don't know how much we value the people of our country. Those who work in the entertainment world, we have caliber, we have many goals.'
Methila said, 'But I wasn't supposed to be a show-stopper there, I mean I wasn't supposed to walk with the designer. But he saw my confidence and said at the last moment - you can walk with me.'
Referring to the fact that the designer was supposed to walk with another showstopper, this Miss Universe Bangladesh added, 'From the backstage, the designers can see who is walking and how; how each model walks, that of course happens in all shows. So, after seeing that, he came to me at the last moment and told me, you come with me. Because the designer had a line, the one who wore white colour clothes in that line would walk as a showstopper, but he added me. Later we walked together.'
Methila went to Paris on September 23 to participate in Paris Fashion Week 2022. There she walked as a showstopper on 29 September.
This famous model-actress of the country said that she will be attending another big fashion event in Paris in March next year.
