The 'World's Best Trilogy Film Festival 2023' is set to open, featuring an array of 60 critically acclaimed films from 20 of the world's best trilogies created over the past 128 years. This carefully curated initiative by the Movieana Film Society aims to celebrate cinematic masterpieces from diverse global languages and cultures, contributing to the evolution of our film criticism and culture. With the emphasis on presenting the best film trilogies worldwide, the festival also facilitates relevant speeches and discussions, fostering an environment conducive to the development of film criticism.
The inaugural ceremony will take place at the National Art Gallery auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on July 7, 2023, at 5 pm. The festival, organized by the Movieana Film Society and co-hosted by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, promises to be a significant event for the international film community. The opening ceremony will be graced by acclaimed filmmaker Morshedul Islam as the inaugurator. Other distinguished guests will include renowned children's author and senior film society member Kaizar Chowdhury, and the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh's chairperson, Sthapati Lailun Nahar Swemi. Belaiyat Hossain Mamun, Chairman of the Movieana Film Society, will deliver the welcome address, while the Director-General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Nattyajon Liakat Ali Lucky, will chair the event.
This year, the festival will honor the centenary of the legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen's birth by premiering the 'Kolkata Trilogy' as the inaugural films. Immediately following the opening ceremony on July 7, 'Interview', the first film from Sen's 'Kolkata Trilogy', will be shown. The remaining two films from the series will be screened on July 8, accompanied by a special lecture on 'Kolkata Trilogy: Mrinal Sen's Politics'. The schedule includes the screening of 'Calcutta 71' at 3:30 pm, followed by the special speech at 5:30 pm, and 'Padatik' at 6:30 pm.
The festival will also showcase trilogies such as Satyajit Ray's 'Apu Trilogy' and 'Kolkata Trilogy', Ritwik Ghatak's 'Partition Trilogy', Yasujiro Ozu's 'Noriko Trilogy', Krzysztof Kieà âºlowski's 'Three Colors Trilogy', among many others.
Notably, the 'World's Best Trilogy Film Festival 2023' plans to host screenings and film discussions during the first and last weekends of every month, hosted at the Studio Theatre Milonayoton of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The festival welcomes all film enthusiasts, emphasizing that all its events will be open to the public.
